Terms of Service
Last updated: September 3, 2026
These terms govern the current safety-limited service. DNA Explore currently provides browser-local parsing, raw-entry viewing, and purchase restoration. Health interpretations, personalized AI, and new purchases are unavailable. Earlier findings may be incorrect and must not be used for medical decisions. See the service update.
DNA Explore (dnaexplore.ai) is operated by Hollens Holdings LLC, an Oregon limited liability company. References to “DNA Explore,” “we,” “us,” or “our” in these terms refer to Hollens Holdings LLC.
1. Current service and medical limitations
The current release reads a compatible raw genotype file in your browser and displays parsed marker identifiers, chromosome labels, positions, and genotypes. It does not verify sample identity, genome build, strand orientation, call quality, or clinical significance. A displayed entry is not a validated laboratory result.
DNA Explore has not been reviewed, cleared, or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We do not represent that any current or future software function falls outside FDA or other regulatory jurisdiction.
Do not use DNA Explore, including any output from an earlier version, to diagnose, predict, prevent, monitor, or treat a disease. Do not use it to select, start, stop, or change a medication, dose, supplement, diet, screening plan, or other health action. Discuss health concerns and any earlier results with a qualified healthcare professional.
2. No Physician-Patient Relationship
Your use of DNA Explore does not create a physician-patient relationship, healthcare provider-patient relationship, or any fiduciary duty between you and DNA Explore, its creators, or any contributors. No licensed medical professional reviews your raw entries through the current service. Earlier algorithmic outputs were not validated for clinical use.
3. Raw genotype file limitations
DNA Explore accepts selected consumer-genotyping text formats. These files can be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or incompatible with the parser. Important limitations include:
- A consumer array tests only part of the genome, so an entry that is absent from the file is not a negative, normal, or safe result.
- A genotype call or position can be wrong, missing, represented on a different strand, or tied to a different genome build.
- Raw array data generally does not establish phasing, copy number, structural variation, or a complete haplotype in complex gene regions.
- DNA Explore does not have your clinical history, family history, ancestry assessment, laboratory confirmation, medications, or other information needed for clinical interpretation.
A qualified healthcare professional can determine whether a concern warrants confirmation through an appropriate clinical laboratory or consultation with a genetics professional.
4. Acceptance of Terms
These terms apply when you use the current DNA Explore service. The file-opening screen requires an acknowledgement before a new file can be selected. If you do not agree, do not use the service and clear any locally saved data. A future feature may require a separate notice and affirmative consent. Earlier browser consent flags do not authorize a future genetic-data transfer.
5. Risks of handling genetic data
Genetic data is sensitive. By choosing to open a file, you understand that:
- Raw genetic entries may still reveal sensitive information if combined with outside sources
- Genetic information may have implications for biological relatives
- DNA Explore saves parsed entries in this browser profile until you clear them
- DNA Explore does not separately encrypt the browser-local IndexedDB record
- Anyone with access to your device or browser profile may be able to access locally stored data
6. Your Data, Your Responsibility
You represent and warrant that:
- You are at least 18 years old
- The genetic data you open is your own
- You will not open another person's genetic data, including a minor's data
- You are responsible for the source of the file you select
- You will not use this tool as a substitute for professional medical advice, clinical genetic testing, or genetic counseling
- You understand that genetic associations are probabilistic and population-level statistics — they do not predict individual outcomes
- You will consult qualified healthcare professionals before making any medical decisions informed by results from this tool
- You will not use the information from this tool to discriminate against, stigmatize, or make decisions about other individuals based on their actual or presumed genetic characteristics
7. Historical AI features
DNA Explore's AI features are unavailable. Current AI endpoints reject requests before reading a request body or contacting an AI provider.
Earlier versions offered three server-mediated features: Ask My DNA, AI Health Report, and Explain This. When a user requested one of those features, selected variant-level data, derived report summaries, and the user's prompt could be sent through a DNA Explore serverless function to Anthropic. The application code did not include the raw file or full parsed variant set in those requests. When a purchase token was present, the browser attached a signed token encoding the checkout email to the same request to DNA Explore's serverless function. The application code did not include that token or email in the request it then sent to Anthropic.
At different times, DNA Explore used two types of report-level AI action. The first copied a prepared prompt to the browser clipboard. A later version's per-finding and whole-report actions stored prepared prompts, opened Ask My DNA, and could submit them automatically through DNA Explore to Anthropic without a second send action. The whole-report action could include a consolidated summary of findings the software flagged for attention.
Earlier AI output may be incomplete or wrong and was not reviewed by a medical professional. Do not rely on it for health or medication decisions. Clearing browser data cannot recall information that was previously submitted to a service provider.
8. No Warranty
DNA Explore is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We expressly disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:
- Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement
- Warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of parsed raw entries or any output from an earlier version
- Warranties that the application will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components
- Warranties regarding the accuracy of any source file, reference, or earlier analysis
The current service displays file entries without interpreting them. It does not guarantee that a displayed entry matches a current reference genome, a clinical laboratory result, or the person using the browser.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, DNA Explore, its creators, contributors, affiliates, and any associated parties shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or in any way connected with:
- Your use of, or inability to use, the application
- Any reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or clinical applicability of any output, analysis, score, or recommendation
- Medical decisions, health outcomes, or any actions taken or not taken based on information provided by the application
- Emotional distress, anxiety, or psychological impact resulting from genetic findings
- Errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in AI-generated content
- Unauthorized access to, or alteration of, your data or transmissions
- Any third-party claims arising from your use of the application
This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise) and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless DNA Explore, its creators, contributors, affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees and court costs) arising out of or in any way connected with:
- Your use of the application or reliance on its outputs
- Your violation of these terms
- Your violation of any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right
- Any claim that your use of another person's genetic data was unauthorized
- Any medical decision made in reliance on information from this tool
11. Genetic privacy and discrimination laws
Genetic privacy and anti-discrimination rights vary by location and circumstance. Federal protections have important limits and may not cover life insurance, disability insurance, long-term care insurance, every employer, or every use of genetic information. State laws may provide different or additional rights.
These terms are not a complete description of your legal rights. Nothing in these terms limits a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be waived. Consult an official government resource or a qualified lawyer for advice about your circumstances.
12. HIPAA
Do not assume that information handled by this consumer website is protected by HIPAA. Genetic data can remain sensitive even when HIPAA does not apply. Review the Privacy Policy before opening a file.
13. Age Requirement
You must be at least 18 years of age and may open only your own genetic data. Do not use DNA Explore with a minor's file or another person's file. DNA Explore does not maintain user accounts and cannot verify a person's age or ownership of a file. If you opened a file in error, use Clear data and clear this site's browser data.
14. Intellectual Property
DNA Explore does not claim ownership of the raw genotype file or genetic data you supply. You retain whatever ownership, privacy, access, deletion, and other rights apply under governing law. The application code, design, and original site content remain protected by applicable intellectual property law.
15. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration
Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights.
You and DNA Explore agree to attempt to resolve any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of the application through good-faith informal negotiation for a period of at least thirty (30) days before initiating any formal proceeding.
If informal resolution is unsuccessful, any dispute shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, conducted in the State of Oregon. The arbitration shall be conducted on an individual basis — class actions, class arbitrations, and representative actions are not permitted. Each party shall bear its own costs and attorney's fees unless the arbitrator determines otherwise.
Class Action Waiver: You agree that any proceedings to resolve disputes will be conducted solely on an individual basis. You waive your right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against DNA Explore, its creators, or affiliates. If this class action waiver is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this arbitration provision shall be null and void.
Nothing in this section limits a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be waived or delayed.
16. Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. To the extent that arbitration is not applicable, any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in the State of Oregon.
17. Severability
If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable.
18. Entire Agreement
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and DNA Explore regarding your use of the application. These terms supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications, whether written or oral.
These terms do not erase nonwaivable rights or any remedy that applicable law provides for a prior purchase.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date identifies the current version. Changes apply prospectively. If a future feature requires a separate notice or consent, it will remain unavailable until that process is in place.
Formatting corrections, clarifications, and contact updates may be made by updating this page. The current application stores consent choices locally in your browser; it does not maintain a server-side consent timestamp.
