Data Deletion

Last updated: September 3, 2026

The short version: DNA Explore does not maintain an application database of raw genome files or full parsed variant sets. To delete DNA Explore's locally stored parsed copy and earlier chat history, click the “Clear data” button on your dashboard, or clear your browser's site data for dnaexplore.ai. Newsletter, research-alert, and payment records are separate and are described below. Clearing DNA Explore does not delete your original file.

1. Why We Have a “Clear Data” Button

When you open a compatible genome file, the current release parses its rows in your browser with client-side JavaScript. It saves parsed entries in your browser profile's IndexedDB so they remain available after refreshes. DNA Explore does not separately encrypt that IndexedDB record. Earlier versions also stored chat history and consent choices in localStorage. AI features are unavailable in the current release.

The “Clear data” button on the dashboard removes:

  • Your parsed genome data (stored in IndexedDB)
  • Chat conversation history (stored in localStorage)
  • Earlier AI, report, and tracking consent choices
  • Any genome-derived state held by the current page

It does not remove your payment token, theme, original file, or copies you saved elsewhere. To remove every local browser setting for DNA Explore, clear all site data for dnaexplore.ai.

2. What Data Exists Where

On Your Device (Browser Storage)

In the current release, the selected raw file and full parsed variant set remain in your browser. The current application does not send them or selected variants to an AI provider.

  • IndexedDB: Parsed genome data (SNP identifiers and genotypes)
  • localStorage: Theme, purchase token, and possible settings or chat history left by an earlier version

How to delete: Click “Clear data” on the dashboard, or go to your browser settings and clear site data for dnaexplore.ai.

On Our Infrastructure

DNA Explore uses Netlify-hosted pages and serverless functions, but does not maintain an application database containing raw genome files or full parsed variant sets. Current AI endpoints reject requests before reading a request body or contacting an AI provider. The current application does not upload your selected raw genome file to our infrastructure.

Other services and infrastructure may hold data associated with your use of DNA Explore, including:

  • Payment records: If you purchased Full Access, Stripe (our payment processor) retains a record of the transaction. This includes your email address and payment details, but no genetic information. See section 3 for how to request assistance with payment records.
  • Email address: If you voluntarily submitted your email via a research-alert signup form, it is stored by Beehiiv or Netlify Forms, depending on which form you used. See section 3 for how to request deletion.
  • Ordinary request metadata: Netlify may process IP address, user agent, requested URL, and request time when hosting pages and serverless functions.

Earlier AI processing

Earlier versions offered three server-mediated AI features: Ask My DNA, AI Health Report, and Explain This. When a user requested one of those features, selected variant-level and derived report data was sent through a DNA Explore serverless function to Anthropic. The application code did not include the raw file or full parsed variant set in those request bodies and did not write the requests or responses to its own database. When a purchase token was present, the browser attached a signed token encoding the checkout email to the same request to DNA Explore's serverless function. The application code did not include that token or email in the request it then sent to Anthropic. Hosting, API provider, and subprocessor retention depended on the terms and account settings in effect at the time.

At different times, DNA Explore used two types of report-level AI action. The first copied a prepared prompt to the browser clipboard. A later version's per-finding and whole-report actions stored prepared prompts, opened Ask My DNA, and could submit them automatically through DNA Explore to Anthropic without a second send action. The whole-report action could include a consolidated summary of findings the software flagged for attention. If a user submitted a copied prompt to another service, that service handled it under its own terms and privacy policy.

3. Clear Local Data and Request Other Deletion

Step 1: Clear Browser Data (Immediate)

This removes DNA Explore's saved parsed copy from the browser profile you are using:

  • Go to your DNA Explore dashboard
  • Click the “Clear data” button beside the file entry count. This removes the browser-local copy without a separate confirmation prompt.
  • Wait until the dashboard says “No genome data loaded.” Your browser's purchase token is preserved.

Alternatively, you can clear all site data for dnaexplore.ai through your browser settings:

  • Open your browser's privacy or site-data settings
  • Find stored data for dnaexplore.ai
  • Remove all data for that site

Browser menu names change over time. Use your browser's official help page if these settings are difficult to find.

Step 2: Request Deletion of Non-Genetic Data (If Applicable)

If you would like us to delete non-genetic data associated with you (such as a research-alert signup), or request assistance with Stripe payment records, please email us at legal@dnaexplore.ai with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”. Include:

  • The email address you want removed
  • Whether the request concerns Beehiiv, Netlify Forms, Stripe, or all applicable services

We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. Provider, legal, fraud-prevention, tax, or accounting requirements may limit deletion of some records.

4. Your Privacy Requests

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of personal data. DNA Explore provides these request paths:

  • Browser-local genome and chat copy: Use Clear Data or clear this site's browser data.
  • Newsletter or form records: Email us using the instructions above.
  • Payment records: Email us for assistance with records held in Stripe.
  • Sale of personal information: DNA Explore does not sell personal information.
  • Facebook / Meta Platform Requirements: This page serves as our data deletion callback URL as required by Meta Platform policies. DNA Explore does not offer Facebook login or a Facebook account connection.

5. Raw Files and Full Parsed Variant Sets

DNA Explore uses hosted pages and serverless functions, but does not maintain an application database containing raw genome files or full parsed variant sets. The current release reads your selected file in browser memory and saves parsed entries in browser-local storage. DNA Explore cannot remotely erase that browser-local copy. Clear it on the device as described in Step 1.

This design reduces server-side exposure of the raw genome and full parsed variant set. Ordinary hosting, payment, earlier form, and earlier AI data remain subject to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
